Master of the Maryland District:
Carl was born in and raised in historic Old Dundalk.
His grandchildren are the fifth generation of Roberts' to be born in
Dundalk. He attended Saint Rita's School, Dundalk High School and
then enlisted in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He served two years active duty
during the Korean Conflict. When released from active duty, he began
work at Crown, Cork and Seal Corporation the same day. After two
years, he began work at Bethlehem Steel Corporation and worked his way up
to machinist. He retired after 36 years. He has been a member
of Dundalk American Legion Post #38 for 45 years, and has held both
chairman and officer positions. Carl is also a member of the Knights
of Saint George, a fraternal organization at St. Rita's Church, and the
Order of the Alhambra in which he has also been an officer.
Carl joined Dundalk Council #2942 Knights of Columbus in
March of 1974. He joined the Fourth Degree in March, 1981 and is a
Charter Member of Christopher Columbus Assembly. He served as Grand
Knight of Dundalk Council in 1985. He was appointed District Warden
in 1992 under then State Deputy Francis Feeley. PSD Andrew Bauer
appointed Carl as the first Color Corps Commander in 1992. In 1994
he received the Knight of the Year Award. After he was elected
Faithful Navigator in 1995, he was honored to receive an award for Color
Corps Commander in 1996 by then Master
Edgar Haynes.
Carl was elected Marshal to the Baltimore Chapter of Grand
Knights in 1997 and was appointed District Marshal for the Fourth Degree
under PSD and Master Andrew C. Bauer. He held Chair positions under
Past State Deputies Philip L. Asplen and Romeo Gauthier. Master
Philip L. Asplen appointed Carl as Secretary and Assistant Marshal in
2001.
Carl was elected President of the Baltimore Chapter of
Grand Knights for the year 2001. He was appointed District Deputy in
2002 under State Deputy Richard L. Sherbert, Jr. He was named Master
of the Maryland in September, 2004.
Carl and his wife Audrey are the parents of 6 children,
have 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He has grandchildren
attending college and 4 have been inducted into the National Honor
Society.
